The Journey
DAY 1 – NAIROBI → SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE
Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, travelling north through the scenic
central highlands towards Samburu County. The journey offers changing landscapes as you pass through the agricultural areas around Mount Kenya and continue towards the drier, dramatic terrain of northern Kenya.
Arrive in Samburu around lunchtime and check in at your lodge. After lunch and a short rest, head out for your first game drive in Samburu National Reserve. The reserve is famous for its rugged scenery, the Ewaso Nyiro River and the unique wildlife of northern Kenya.
Keep an eye out for Samburu’s Special Five — the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk and Somali ostrich — alongside elephants, lions, leopards and other wildlife.
Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2 – FULL-DAY SAMBURU SAFARI
After an early breakfast, set out for a full-day exploration of Samburu National Reserve.
The morning game drive takes you deeper into the reserve, following the Ewaso Nyiro River where wildlife frequently gathers, particularly during the warmer parts of the day. Depending on sightings, you
may encounter large elephant herds, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffalo and the reserve’s distinctive northern species.
Return to the lodge for lunch and some time to relax before continuing with an afternoon game drive.
As the sun begins to lower over the reserve, enjoy the changing colours of the Samburu landscape before returning to the lodge.

DAY 3 – SAMBURU → LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy an early breakfast before checking out and beginning your journey south towards Lake Nakuru National Park.
The drive takes you through the dramatic landscapes of the Rift Valley. Upon arrival in the Nakuru area, proceed towards the park for an afternoon game drive.
Lake Nakuru is renowned for its diverse wildlife and beautiful landscapes, with opportunities to see rhino,
Rothschild’s giraffe, buffalo, lions, waterbuck and numerous bird species. The park’s lake and surrounding escarpments provide a completely different safari environment from Samburu.
Continue with the game drive before proceeding to your lodge for check-in.
Dinner and overnight near Lake Nakuru.

DAY 4 – LAKE NAKURU → MAASAI MARA
After breakfast, depart Nakuru and continue towards the legendary Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The journey takes you through the Great Rift Valley and onward into the rolling grasslands of the Mara ecosystem. Arrive at your lodge in time for lunch and settle in.
Later in the afternoon, head out for your first Maasai Mara game drive.
The Mara’s vast open plains provide excellent opportunities for spotting large concentrations of wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and antelopes. The reserve is also famous for its big cats, so your guide will be on the lookout for lions, cheetahs and, if you’re fortunate, leopards.
Return to the lodge as the evening sets in.

DAY 5 – FULL-DAY MAASAI MARA SAFARI
Wake up to the sounds of the African wilderness and enjoy an early breakfast before embarking on a full- day safari in the Maasai Mara.
Today’s safari is dedicated to exploring the reserve more extensively, allowing you to venture further across the Mara’s iconic plains in search of wildlife.
Depending on the season and current wildlife movements, you may encounter large herds of wildebeest and zebra, elephants, giraffes, buffalo and an impressive variety of plains game. The Mara is particularly renowned for its predator population, offering excellent chances of encountering lions, cheetahs and leopards.
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the reserve, surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Mara, before continuing your afternoon exploration.
As the day comes to an end, return to the lodge for dinner and your final night in the Mara.

DAY 6 – MAASAI MARA → NAIVASHA EXPERIENCE → NAIROBI
After an early breakfast, check out from the lodge and begin your journey towards Nairobi, with your final experiences taking place in Naivasha.
Upon arrival, proceed to Hell’s Gate National Park for a guided exploration of the park. Enjoy the dramatic landscapes, towering cliffs, gorges and wildlife, with the opportunity for a walking or cycling experience chargeable at an extra cost.
Continue to Lake Naivasha for a scenic boat ride across the lake, where you can observe hippos and abundant birdlife. From the lake, proceed to Crescent Island for a guided walking safari among giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and other plains game.
After completing the Naivasha experiences, continue with your journey to Nairobi. Arrive in the late afternoon/evening, marking the end of your Wild Horizons 6 Days / 5 Nights Safari.
